Frequently asked questions
Short answers. The methodology page has the long ones.
For consumers
What does "Verified" mean on InsureGrades?
A verified agent has claimed their profile and had their license checked against the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR): the license is active, the name matches, and the lines of authority are recorded. Listings without the Verified badge come from state public license records and say so on the profile.
How do I check whether an insurance agent is licensed?
Search the agent by name on InsureGrades to see the license status and lines of authority from state records, then confirm with your state insurance department's own license lookup. Every state directory page on InsureGrades links to that state's regulator.
Are the ratings trustworthy?
Ratings are four star scores (responsiveness, clarity, claims support, trust) left by signed-in consumers, one per agent, published immediately and shown anonymously. Agents cannot pay for ratings or remove them; they can flag a rating for review by InsureGrades. Rate limits and network checks block bulk or self-rating.
Why does an agent's profile show no phone number or website?
Contact details from public records are never displayed until the agent claims the profile. Claimed profiles can show a phone number, website, LinkedIn page and years of experience that the agent entered.
Where does the listing data come from?
Unclaimed listings are built from state insurance department public license files, starting with Florida. Each profile shows the date its license records were last updated. Verified profiles are checked against NIPR when the agent claims them and re-checked afterwards.
Is InsureGrades a consumer reporting agency?
No. InsureGrades is not a consumer reporting agency and its data must not be used for employment, tenant, credit or insurance-eligibility screening.
For agents
A profile with my name already exists. How do I claim it?
Use the "Claim this profile" button on the listing, or start at /claim. Once you verify your license the profile becomes yours, including any ratings and waiting quote requests.
What is the compliance score?
A 0 to 100 score shown on Professional and Elite profiles: 50 points for an active NIPR-verified license, 30 for no regulatory actions on the NIPR record, 15 for no lapsed license, and 5 for a complete profile. Continuing-education hours are not scored and an upcoming expiration never lowers the score.
How do I correct or remove information on my listing?
Claim the profile to edit it, or email support@insuregrades.com with the profile link and what needs to change. License facts come from state records and NIPR, so a correction there is reflected on the next check.
Plans and billing
How does license verification work?
InsureGrades verifies your license directly against official state insurance department records to confirm your license is active and your name matches. This typically completes in under 3 minutes.
Can I verify multiple state licenses?
Yes. Professional and Elite plans include our multi-state license dashboard. Each state license is independently verified against that state's records.
What happens if I cancel?
Your verified badge goes inactive immediately and your profile is removed from search. Ongoing license monitoring stops. You can reactivate anytime by resubscribing. No re-verification needed if your license is still active.
Is my payment data secure?
All payments are processed by Stripe. InsureGrades never stores your card number or billing details.
Can I switch plans?
Yes. Upgrade or downgrade anytime from your billing dashboard. Upgrades take effect immediately and the prorated difference is charged right away. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period, so you keep everything you already paid for.
Do you offer a free trial?
Producers we invite by email get a 14-day free trial of the Starter plan. A card is required to start it, we email you 3 days before it ends, and the plan is billed automatically after the trial unless you cancel first from your Billing page. Cancel before the trial ends and you are not charged.
Do consumers pay anything?
No. Searching and viewing agent profiles on InsureGrades is completely free for consumers, and quote requests need no account at all. A free consumer account is only required to leave reviews.
